The ASASWEI Teaching and Learning (T&L) Awards will be awarded at the Banquet Dinner during the 2023 conference hosted in partnership with the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal at the Southern Sun- Elangeni Hotel in Durban on the 26th September 2023.  

Please find below nominee criteria, requirements and nomination form to be completed and returned, along with all supporting documentation, to the ASASWEI Secretariat via [email protected]

Please note: The Awards are not to be confused with the Distinguished Teacher Award that is offered at institutional level – thus a Teaching Portfolio is not required.

Lifetime Social Work Academic Achiever Award

Criteria: Achievements sustained over the lifespan of one’s career, not once off or highlights of a short-term period

  1. Holds a PhD
  2. A significant contribution to social work education at national and/or international level, via service on committees, conferences, publications, etc.
  3. Recognition and/or promotions within their institutions
  4. Contribution to curriculum development – roles played in taking education forward on a national level
  5. External examinations and service on editorial and advisory boards of journals, etc.
  6. Currently a full-time academic in an ASASWEI-member institution 
     
Social Work Researcher of the Year Award

Criteria:

  1. Holds a PhD
  2. A steady track record of publications over the past five years
  3. A clear research niche
  4. Contributing to knowledge development in their niche
  5. Recognition and/or promotions within their institutions
  6. Evidence of a strong academic profile, via participation in  international conferences, committees, research groups
  7. Currently a full-time academic in an ASASWEI-member institution 
     
Established Social Work Educator of the Year Award

Criteria: Achievements in the past 5 years or less

  1. Holds a PhD
  2. A significant contribution to social work education at national and/or international level, via service on committees, conferences, publications, etc.
  3. Recognition and/or promotions within their institutions
  4. Contribution to curriculum development – roles played in taking education forward on a national level
  5. External examinations and service on editorial and advisory boards of journals, etc.
  6. Currently a full-time academic in an ASASWEI-member institution 


     

Student of the Year Award

Criteria:

  1. Currently registered for social work with one of ASASWEI affiliate university 
  2. A steady track record of top academic performance
  3. A significant contribution to community service, research and publication and remarkable networking   and organizational work of any kind    
  4. Currently a full-time or part-time student in an ASASWEI-member institution 
     
Established Social Work Educator of the Year Award

Criteria:

  1. Less than five years in academia
  2. In possession of a PhD OR registered and working towards a PhD
  3. Significant contribution to curriculum development at institutional level, via playing a role in advancing social work education
  4. Evidence of a developing academic profile, via participation in conferences, committee and publications
  5. Recognition and/or promotions within their institutions
  6. Currently a full-time academic in an ASASWEI-member institution 
     
Exclusion criteria:
  1. Cannot be a current member of the Executive Committee of the student association
  2. A person who has received an award cannot reapply or be re-nominated for the same award
  3. A person who received an award within the past five years cannot apply or be nominated for an award in another category

Nomination process:

  1. Candidates may apply for the award themselves or be nominated by another ASASWEI member
  2. Nomination forms to be signed by both nominee and nominator
  3. If nominated, a letter of support from the nominator is to be attached
  4. If self-nominated, a letter of application is to be included
  5. A statement of motivation for the award [no more than 500 words] by the candidate is to be submitted
  6. A full CV must be attached to the application/nomination
  7. Must be a recognized member of an ASASWEI member institution (i.e. meet the criteria for staff as per the ASASWEI Constitution).
